Reconditioned in Sharjah · supplied across the UAE
Used and reconditioned generators
Buying a second-hand diesel generator is a gamble about a machine's internal condition, made by someone who cannot see inside it. What changes that is who reconditioned it — and these are sets that have been through our own workshop.
Availability changes constantly, so there is no stock list on this page
Tell us the rating you need, the duty, the site and when you need it, and you will be told what is available now, what is in the workshop, and what could be sourced and reconditioned to suit. Call or WhatsApp +971 50 767 9050, or email jacob@abradiesel.com.
Abra Diesel is a repair workshop with its own machine shop behind the Yerevan Steel Factory in Industrial Area 15, Sharjah. Established 2011, over 25 years of experience, ISO 9001:2015 certified.
The problem this page solves
What you are actually buying second-hand
Every used genset carries the same four unknowns, and nothing on the outside of the machine tells you which of them apply.
The engine's internal condition
Bore and journal wear, bearing clearance, compression and blow-by. Invisible from the outside, and the difference between a set with years in it and one that needs an overhaul in six months.
The alternator's insulation condition
A winding that has been running hot, or has sat damp, can pass a casual run test and fail under sustained load.
Whether it carries its rating
A set that starts and idles beautifully is not a set that has been proved on load. These are not the same test, and only one of them is worth anything.
What happens afterwards
Who fixes it, who has the history, and whether anybody kept a record of what was done to it before you bought it.
That is the whole proposition on this page.
What reconditioned means here
We are not a trader who cleans sets and re-badges them
The engine, the alternator and the control gear go through the same shop, the same benches and the same machines as customer jobs — and the same measurements are taken.
On the engine
- Assessment first: compression and blow-by, oil pressure at temperature, oil condition and any sign of contamination
- Where the measurements say the engine is worn rather than serviceable, it is stripped, cleaned, crack tested and measured against the manufacturer's service limits
- Components within remachining limits are machined here — crankshaft grinding, block line boring and decking, boring and honing, head surfacing and valve work, connecting-rod resizing
On the fuel system
- Injectors and the injection pump tested and calibrated on our own benches rather than refitted on hope
- The tank cleaned
- This is the item most often skipped on a second-hand set, and the one that quietly ruins a good engine
On the alternator and control side
- Insulation resistance tested, the excitation chain checked, bearings assessed, terminal box and connections gone through
- Where the winding needs work it goes to our own winding bay
- Controller function, protections, sensors, wiring, battery and charging — the panel proved rather than assumed
On the cooling system
- Radiator core cleaned and pressure tested, the system flushed
- Coolant to the engine manufacturer's specification
- Hoses, belts and thermostat renewed as condition requires
A set does not leave as reconditioned on the strength of a run in the yard. It is proved on load — see generator load bank testing — with voltage, frequency, current, temperatures and pressures recorded at each step. That record goes with the set.
Deliverables
What comes with the set
So they are not supplied on the same terms. Ask what applies to the specific set you are looking at rather than reading a slogan off a web page.
Why it matters who reconditioned it
The machining is not sent out
A trader who buys and resells sets has to accept whatever internal condition arrives, because putting it right means buying machining from someone else. Subcontracting this work is common in this market, and it is why so many second-hand sets are cleaned rather than measured.
What it changes for you. A crankshaft that grinds to the next undersize and a block that bores to a standard oversize piston are both recoverable here — so the set you are offered has been brought back to specification rather than tidied up.
The honest question
Should you buy used, or repair what you already have?
We would rather ask this than skip it, because for a good share of enquiries the honest answer is that buying is the wrong move.
Repairing what you own usually wins
When the installation already exists and works — foundation, cabling, exhaust route, approvals — and when the core components clean up within the manufacturer's limits. That is a measurement rather than an opinion, and one we can take. Start at generator repair and service.
Buying reconditioned usually wins
When you need standby capacity you do not currently have, when the existing set was always undersized for the load it now carries, when the core components are genuinely beyond machining limits, or when a set has to be in place before the old one comes out.
Buying new usually wins
When emissions or approval requirements demand current equipment, when a manufacturer warranty is a procurement requirement, or when a specification names it.
We will say which applies
It is a shorter conversation than the one that follows the wrong purchase.
Equipment and independence
Brands, and what we are not
Sets in this region are most commonly built around Perkins, Cummins, Caterpillar, Volvo, Deutz, Yanmar, Kubota and Mitsubishi engines under a range of set badges, with Stamford and equivalent alternators. Which of those we can offer at any given moment depends entirely on what is in the workshop — which is exactly why this page does not list stock.
We hold no brand dealership of any kind. We are an independent repairer, and any manufacturer name used here or in a conversation about an available set describes the equipment, nothing more.
We install, relocate and commission sets across the UAE — foundation and mounting, exhaust, fuel, cooling airflow, panel and changeover, then a full commissioning sequence with a handover pack. Afterwards, scheduled servicing and AMC cover are available on the set we sold you as on any other, with the set's history already on file here.
How to enquire
What to tell us
The more of this you can give us, the more useful the first reply will be.
- The rating you need — or, if you are not sure, the load you actually have to carry, and whether it includes motor starting or a UPS
- The duty: standby only, prime power, or something in between
- The site: emirate, plant room or outdoor, access for delivery and for future service, and whether an acoustic enclosure is needed
- Single or three phase, and the voltage and frequency you are working to
- When you need it, and whether an existing set has to come out first
- Any specification you are buying against, so the set can be matched to it rather than to a guess
You will get back what is available now, what is in the workshop and when it would be ready, and an honest view on whether buying is the right move at all. Sets can be viewed and run at the workshop.
Common questions
Buying a reconditioned set, answered
Do you have a stock list?
No, and it would not be accurate by the time you read it — availability moves constantly and every set is different. Tell us the rating, the duty and the timing and you will get a current answer for what is actually here.
What does "reconditioned" cover on a particular set?
It depends on what that set needed, and it is written down for the set you are buying rather than described in general terms on a web page. Ask for the work record: what was found, what was measured, what was machined, what was replaced, and the load test result. If a seller cannot produce that, they have not done it.
Is a used generator a false economy?
Not if it has been measured and proved rather than cleaned and painted. The risk in second-hand gensets is unknown internal condition, and that risk is removed by inspection and a load test, not by the age of the machine. A well-reconditioned older set with a known history is a better buy than an unknown low-hours set.
Do you take trade-ins, or buy sets?
Talk to us about it. What a set is worth to a workshop depends on what its engine, alternator and control gear measure — the same assessment we would carry out on any set arriving here.
Do you sell petrol or portable generators?
No. Our work is diesel generating sets.
Can you install and maintain the set as well as supply it?
Yes — installation and commissioning across the UAE, and scheduled servicing or AMC cover afterwards, with the set's own history already on file here.
Ask what is available
Send the rating, duty, site and timing. Sets can be viewed and run at the workshop, behind Yerevan Steel Factory, Industrial Area 15, Maliha Road, Sharjah. No brand dealership held; manufacturer names identify equipment we service and supply.
