Most of an engine job does not care what the badge says

A crankshaft is a forging with journals on it. A cylinder head is a casting with valves and seats in it. A bore is a bore. Grinding a journal to an undersize, line boring a main bearing tunnel, surfacing a deck, pressure testing a casting, boring and honing a liner, sizing a small end, balancing a rotating assembly — none of that changes with the manufacturer's name. What changes is the number the component has to end up at, and that comes out of the manual, not out of a dealership.

The machining does not

Which is why an independent workshop with its own machine shop can cover a far wider range of makes than a franchised network. Our coverage is best described by capability, not by badge.

Data does

Clearances, limits, torque figures and settings are manufacturer-specific. Where we have them or can obtain them for your engine, the job proceeds normally. Where we cannot, we say so at enquiry stage — not after the engine is in pieces.

Parts do

Availability, lead time and cost into Sharjah differ enormously between makes. On some engines the parts question, not the machining question, decides whether a repair is sensible. You get the realistic wait before you commit.

Electronics do

Mechanical work is broadly transferable. Electronic engine management is not. Diagnostic coverage for a specific ECU is a question worth asking any workshop, including this one. Ask it, and take a straight answer as the qualification it is.

The part that matters

When an engine we have not seen before arrives

No workshop has worked on everything, and one that says otherwise is telling you something else about itself. This sequence is the same whether the engine is one we see weekly or one we have never had on a stand.

  1. The data plate firstPhotograph it and send it before anything moves. Make, model, serial and build number identify the specification — not the machine it is fitted to and not the seller's description. On some makes the plate is the only thing that separates several builds, and the builds are not interchangeable.
  2. Data and parts, before commitmentTwo questions get answered before we accept the job: can the clearances, limits and settings for this build be obtained, and can the parts that will certainly be needed — bearings, gaskets, seals, rings, valves — be obtained in a sensible time into Sharjah? If either answer is no, it is said out loud at enquiry stage.
  3. Measure before anyone commits to a scopeStrip-and-measure is deliberately separated from repair. Components are cleaned, crack tested where appropriate and measured, and you receive the readings with the manufacturer's limits beside them. Nothing is machined, ordered or replaced until you have said yes.
  4. Say no where no is the right answerAn in-warranty engine, an engine bound by a procurement policy requiring the authorised network, an engine whose electronics we cannot address — in those cases you are told, on the phone, before you have spent anything.

The fair comparison

Independent workshop, or authorised dealer

In warranty, go to the dealer. Work outside the authorised network can affect manufacturer warranty cover. This is the one case where the answer is not close, and we will say so on the phone rather than take the job.

Bound by a genuine-parts-only procurement policy, go to the dealer. Some fleet, marine and life-safety contracts require manufacturer-supplied parts, and that is a legitimate requirement. We are not tied to a supply channel — an advantage if you want the choice, a disadvantage if you do not.

Out of warranty, older engine, or a component that could be machined rather than replaced — an independent workshop with its own machines is usually the better buy. Authorised networks generally replace major components, because that is how the network is built. Our machine shop exists to give the other answer: measure the component, and if it is within remachining limits, bring it back to specification. On an older engine that difference is measured in weeks of lead time as well as in money.

Technical data and factory tooling, particularly on current electronically managed engines. Ask any workshop — including us — what it holds for your specific engine before committing, and take a straight answer as the qualification it is.

Before you buy a replacement engine, have it measured

The expensive decision on a tired engine is almost never “repair or replace the engine”. It is whether this crankshaft, this block and this head are still within limits — and that is a measurement, not an opinion, and certainly not something to settle from a photograph. A crankshaft turns on ovality, hardness, bend and crack depth, and on how much material remains above the manufacturer's bottom permitted undersize. A block turns on bore wear, taper, ovality and main bearing bore alignment. A head turns on flatness, seat recession and cracks. Every one is a number with a published limit beside it, and every one is taken in the same building where the machining would happen. So the low-commitment first step is not a quotation and not a parts order — send us the component and let us measure it. If it is past recovery you will be told so, because a wrong repair costs more than a right replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a dealer for any engine brand?

No. We hold no brand dealership of any kind, and we say so on our own site. We are an independent workshop. Manufacturer names on this site identify the equipment we repair and nothing more.

My engine make is not listed. Can you still help?

Send the data plate. Most of an engine repair is machining and measurement, which does not change with the badge, so the real questions are whether the technical data and the parts can be obtained for your build. Those are answerable in a phone call, and you get a straight yes or no rather than a maybe.

Can you work on electronically managed engines?

Mechanical work, yes, across the board. Electronic engine management coverage is engine-specific, so tell us the make, model and ECU at enquiry stage and we will confirm what can and cannot be addressed before you commit to an attendance. Related work is covered under ECM, ECU and governor repair.

Do you use genuine parts?

We quote genuine parts where you want them or your policy requires them, and quality aftermarket where that is the sensible choice — and the quotation states which is which. Parts are sourced per job, and the realistic wait is given to you before you commit.

I have a generator, not a loose engine. Which page do I want?

Do you come to the machine, or does the machine come to you?

Both, and usually both on the same job. Diagnosis, top-end work and breakdown attendance happen where the engine is. Crankshafts, heads, blocks, rods, pumps, injectors and turbochargers come to Industrial Area 15, because that is where the machines are. In most cases the component travels and the engine stays.

Tell us what you have

Engine make, model and serial number, the application, the running hours and the symptom — and photograph the data plate. It tells us more than a description does, and it is usually enough for a straight answer before anything is moved.
